What we collect
What you give us
- Your WhatsApp number, when you verify it to keep using UNIFER free.
- Your application details, when you apply with UNIFER: name, email, WhatsApp number, what you want to study and the courses you chose.
- Your answers to the AI Counsellor, such as your studies, scores and budget, used to build your shortlist and kept, without your name, to improve our recommendations. The first name you give the Counsellor stays on your device.
What is collected as you use the site
- Which pages you visit and which buttons you use, your device type (phone or computer) and your approximate location (city), worked out from your internet address. We do not keep the address itself.
- A random code for each browser tab, deleted when you close the tab. We use no advertising cookies.
- On your device only: a count of the free pages and searches you have used, and, once you verify your number, a cookie that keeps you signed in for 90 days.
How we use it
- To send your WhatsApp code and keep you signed in.
- To build your course shortlist.
- To handle your application, and to talk to you about it.
- To send you updates about courses, universities, deadlines and UNIFER's services, including offers.
- To keep the site working, safe and free from misuse, and to improve it.
Messages and calls
When you give us your number, UNIFER may contact you on WhatsApp, by phone call, SMS and email about studying abroad and UNIFER's services, including offers. Messages come from UNIFER's own numbers.
To stop: reply STOP on WhatsApp, or email help@uniferedu.com. We stop within 7 days. Messages about an application you have made with us may still be sent while it is in progress.
We follow TRAI's rules for promotional calls and messages, including the Do Not Disturb (DND) register.
Who sees it
We never sell your details, and never share them with universities, agents or advertisers without you asking.
- When you apply with UNIFER, we send your application to the universities you chose. That is the point of applying.
- Services that run UNIFER for us, only to do that job: Supabase (our database), Railway (our servers), Meta (WhatsApp messages), Notion (our team's list of applications) and ntfy (alerts to our team when you apply).
- When the law requires it, for example a court order.
How long we keep it
- Your number and application: until you ask us to delete them, or 2 years after we last heard from you.
- Site usage: 2 years, then only totals that cannot identify anyone.
- WhatsApp codes: 10 minutes.
How we protect it
Your details are stored in a secured database that the website cannot read back, sent over encrypted connections, and seen only by the UNIFER team members who need them. No system is perfectly safe; if your details are ever exposed, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- ask what we hold about you, and get a copy;
- correct it or have it deleted;
- withdraw your consent at any time (this does not undo what was done before);
- name someone to act for you if you are unable to;
- complain to us, and then to the Data Protection Board of India.
Email help@uniferedu.com from the email you gave us, or call +91 99156 59911. We reply within 2 working days and resolve your request within 15 days.
